Overview  

Wesley Jones Law is focused on helping our clients and delivering high quality service in a clear and simple way. We are a small but growing law firm, situated on Moray Place in Dunedin. We specialise in all things property whilst also offering private client and commercial services.

We are wanting to grow and move into new and exciting projects – to do this we need to expand and develop our team. We are on the hunt for an experienced solicitor to join our team!

This is a part-time role that reports directly to our principal and helps oversee our team of legal executives.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a Property and Commercial Law Solicitor who has over 3 years’ worth of professional experience under their belt. The individual would enjoy multitasking, is highly organised, very efficient and is not afraid to get stuck in and hit the ground running. Ideally the selected individual would seamlessly fit into our workplace culture and values – This is very important as it highly influences our workplace atmosphere and delivery.

 

Requirements

  • A current practicing certificate is preferred with at least 3 years post qualification experience.
  • Analytical thinking skills with strong conceptual and research skills.
  • Natural leadership skills with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • A passion for working with others (being collaborative) and helping our team members grow and learn.
  • Problem-solving and thinking skills to ensure any challenges don’t greatly impact matter progress or outcomes.
  • The ability to set goals and develop achievable timelines to hit them.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, and an ability to be empathetic towards our clients’ needs and situations.
  • A self-starter who is keen to help build the practise.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Interpreting and explaining the law and giving legal advice in a way that our clients find engaging and easy to understand.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and managing wills, trusts, estates and deeds.
  • Drafting and reviewing commercial contracts.
  • Reviewing conveyancing documents.
  • Attending client and firm meetings and events.
  • Meeting or exceeding firm and client expectations, including completing work within agree timeframes and meeting budget goals.
  • Meeting with clients and other professionals to progress matters and build relationships.
  • Taking the lead on matters and client relationships.
  • Ensuring firm, client and legal processes are correctly followed.
  • Finding innovative solutions to client problems.
  • Delivering work on or well ahead of deadlines.
  • Displaying a great, positive attitude, and being open to feedback and suggestions.
  • Build your business community and connections through networking.
  • Conducting thorough legal research, with well-documented opinions and conclusions.

  • 4 Weeks annual leave plus the office is closed between Christmas and New Year (lunchtime Christmas Eve – except where it is a weekend where we close 5pm on the Friday before – re-opening on the 4th of January). This is additional leave and does not come out of your annual leave entitlement.
